Art of Indigenous Fashion shows how Indigenous fashion designers have been creating clothing and adornments for millennia, qualifying them as the “original haute couture artists of the Americas,” says the exhibit announcement. Not only do their custom-made, one-of-a-kind garments qualify as high style in wearable art, but they also may serve as a platform for social activism. In this first-ever fashion exhibition organized by the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, more than 20 Indigenous designers illustrate how materials such as feathers, copper, crystal, latex paint and zip ties can be woven together to make a unique fashion statement. Through Jan. 8, 2023.
