Sorrel Sky Gallery

With locations in Durango and Santa Fe, Sorrel Sky Gallery takes a forward-looking approach to western art. This month it highlights the work of sculptor Star Liana York. Her one-woman show (through Aug. 31) reflects her time at New Mexico's Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Reserve. The reserve's permanent and migratory residents — including eagles, owls, coyotes, mountain lions, weasels, raccoons and deer — inspire her works.

The gallery's 20th anniversary coincides with Indian Market's centennial. It marks the occasion with a series of events over four days, starting with a talk from top-selling photographer David Yarrow (5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18). The gallery also spotlights several Native American artists in a presentation (5 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19) and a two-day show (Aug. 20 and 21). The artists include Victoria Adams (Southern Arapaho/Southern Cheyenne of Oklahoma), Ben Nighthorse Campbell (Northern Cheyenne), Arlene LaDell Hayes, Chuck Middlekauff, Kevin Red Star (Crow Nation of Montana), Robert Rivera (Apache Nation), Mateo Romero (Cochiti Pueblo), Thom Ross, Tony Stromberg, Ray Tracey (Navajo Nation) and Star Liana York. Jackson Clark, an authority on Navajo weaving and owner of Toh-Atin Gallery, presents two lectures on weaving (3 p.m. Aug. 18 and noon Aug. 21).
