MARLENE ALICE LIND

JUNE 8, 1936 - DECEMBER 29, 2022

Marlene A. Lind, beloved mother, educator and avid traveler, passed away in Denver on December 29th, 2022.

Marlene was born to Bryan and Gladys Page and raised in Ault, Colorado. She received her Bachelor of Education and a Master’s in library media sciences from the University of University of Colorado.

An educator at heart, she taught in and supervised elementary school libraries in the Jefferson County, Colorado school district for more than 20 years. But Marlene was an adventurous spirit. She wanted to experience the world and make the most of life. Mid-career, she moved to Hawaii. Nearing retirement and not speaking any Spanish, she picked up and moved all the way to Quito, Ecuador where she worked until the age of 70. Quite a bold move at any age.

After moving back to the States in 2006, she settled in Santa Fe, a place she came to love dearly. She was always “busy, busy, busy” with a great and ever-growing circle of friends. Closest to her heart was her volunteer work for the Museum of International Folk Art and the Santa Fe Opera, her book and knitting clubs and, of course, her neighbors in Aldea. Travel was her passion, and she was planning trips with friends to New York, Sweden and South Africa up until the end.

Her close-knit and loyal group of friends from Denver and Santa Fe rallied to keep her company and sent rivers of cards to her at the hospital and hospice–something that was highly appreciated and lifted her spirits enormously. We, her family, are ever so grateful to all of you!

Marlene will be sorely missed by her daughters Susan and Karen, sister Jeannene, and all her friends around the world.

A Memorial service will be held on Monday, Feb 20th at 1:00 pm at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe. Donations may be made in Marlene´s memory to the Museum of International Folk Art.
