GEORGIA O’KEEFFE MUSEUM

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is set to unveil two exhibitions in December. Opening Dec. 1, Radical Abstraction delves into the artist’s lesser-known abstract works. Drawing from the museum’s collection, the exhibition showcases a range, from her pioneering early abstractions to late works that exemplify the synthesis of abstraction and nature. Featuring a recent gift of a little-known group of Untitled (Abstraction) of realism in favor of a radical, hybrid mode of representation, the museum says. Opening on Dec. 8, Georgia O’Keeffe: Making a Life delves into the artist’s identity as a maker — an individual who carefully curated her life, personal style, and artistic practice. Also drawing from the museum’s collection, the exhibition highlights O’Keeffe’s way of living. The road trip-worthy O’Keeffe in the Landscape (through April 1, 2023) explores the artist’s relationship with nature through photographs of her friends and personal effects, such as camping gear and clothing. NEW MEXICO PERFORMING ARTS SOCIETY

The New Mexico Performing Art Society returns with its annual Winter Solstice Concerts on Nov. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel and on Nov. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in Albuquerque. Metropolitan Opera conductor emeritus and NMPAS artistic director Franz Vote leads the professional New Mexico Bach Society Chorale and Orchestra in a performance of two parts of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. The New Mexico Performing Arts Society also holds its chamber concert — a presentation of the music of Robert Schumann and Richard Strauss — on Jan. 22, at 4 p.m., at Kennedy Alumni Hall on the campus of New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas. MUSEUM OF INTERNATIONAL FOLK ART

During the COVID-19 pandemic, masks became not only a daily accessory but also a means of self-expression. Working across a variety of media, artists pay homage to this suddenly ubiquitous item in #mask: Creative Responses to the Global Pandemic (through Jan. 15, 2023). Adornments are also the subject of Dressing with Purpose: Belonging and Resistance in Scandinavia (through Feb. 19, 2023), which displays three dress traditions and traces their change. Opening Jan. 29, 2023, La Cartonería Mexicana / The Mexican Art of Paper and Paste explores Hispanic and Latino culture through this artistic tradition. CANYON ROAD

The galleries of Canyon Road will host seasonal festivities, including farolitos, live music, seasonal refreshments; and artists will be on hand during the second Fireside Chat Artists Series on Dec. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. Galleries hosting casual conversations with artists include: Canyon Road Contemporary, Susan Eddings Perez Gallery, Ahmyo River Gallery, and Barbara Meikle Fine Art. AMP CONCERTS

Curators of the Santa Fe Summer Scene, AMP Concerts isn’t slowing down for the winter. It prestor Juan Carmona on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis Auditorium. Tickets from $22. Grammy Award winners The Mavericks take the stage at the Lensic Performing Arts Center on Dec. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. rockabilly, Latino, folk, swing, and more — but with songs like “Christmas Time Is Coming ’Round Again” and “Christmas for Me Is You,” it’s always festive. MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY NATIVE ARTS

The Art of Indigenous Fashion (through Jan. 8, 2023) Contemporary Native Arts has organized, and it’s a standout. The works of more than 20 contemporary Indigenous designers feature in the exhibition, and their haute couture creations challenge viewers’ notions of Native American design. Also continuing at MOCNA, Athena La Tocha: Mesabi Redux (through Dec. 25) considers mining’s impacts on society, culture, and the earth, with works created at Minnesota’s Mesabi mountain range with iron deposits there. Three generations of Mvskoke (Creek) women from the Fife family feature in the exhibition Matrilineal: Legacies of Our Mothers (through Jan. 15, 2023). LENSIC PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

The Lensic Presents 2022–2023 season is set to ring in the New Year with Joe Illick, music director and principal conductor of the Fort Worth Opera, as he once again leads an all-star orchestra. This year’s concert, on Dec. 31 at 1 and 5 p.m., includes special guest and countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. Tickets from $20. Get a little R.E.S.P.E.C.T. in 2023 with a show devoted to the Queen of Soul on Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The show chronicles Aretha Franklin’s life with songs such as “Chain of Fools” and “Son of a Preacher Man.” Tickets from $49. The Lensic’s broadcasts from London’s National Theatre include The Seagull, starring Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke in her West End debut, on Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. Tickets $22. NEW MEXICO MUSEUM OF ART

Techniques that forever altered photography take center stage in Mixed-Media Photography of the 1960s and 1970s (through Jan. 8, 2023). The exhibition highlights artists who pressed the boundaries of traditional photographic processes by using collage, new technical approaches, and even sculpture. Western Eyes: 20th Century Art Here and Now (also through Jan. 8, 2023) takes stock of 100 years of American realism, and Indigenous and Mexican modernism. 107 W.
