Avis Charley is a Spirit Lake Dakota/ Diné mother and artist. Her paintings depict Native empowerment via the feminine form. Charley is primarily known for her drawings on antique ledger paper. They fuse together Native identity, from “ancestral homelands to city life.” Born and raised in Los Angeles, Charley currently resides in Santa Fe.
