Mamerto Sanchez Cardenas

Booth 70 Mamerto Sanchez Cardenas has lived an extraordinary life. He was born in the Ayacucho region of the Peruvian Andes. He began his career of more than 60 years as a folk artist by learning to work with clay from his grandfather, who was taught by a local healer. His ceramic sculptures, made in collaboration with his family, depict ornamented animals, saints, religious scenes and celebrations.
