Bécal Museum

Booth 22 Originally trained in medicine, Axayacatl Castañeda went to work helping people in the jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula and found a new passion. He exchanged health care for work in community arts and culture by establishing the Bécal Museum, which offers art activities and training in traditional crafts. One of its programs involves the making of Panama-style hats from the tender fibers of palm leaf buds.
