Blue Rain Gallery

From its Railyard Arts District location, Blue Rain Gallery represents established contemporary Native American artists and American artists of other backgrounds working in a variety of media. This time of year, Blue Rain is best known for its annual group show. The show (Aug. 18-22) coincides with Indian Market and features a Who's Who of Native American artists, including ceramicists Lisa Holt (Cochiti Pueblo) and Harlan Reano (Kewa Pueblo); glass artists Dan Friday (Lummi Nation) and Raven Skyriver (Tlingit Nation); jeweler Maria Samora (Taos Pueblo); mixed-media ledger artist Chris Pappan (Cheyenne River Sioux/Kaw/Osage); painters Starr Hardridge (Muscogee Creek Nation), Frank Buffalo Hyde (Onondaga), Ryan Singer (Navajo) and Helen K. Tindel (Santa Clara Pueblo); and potter Jody Naranjo (Santa Clara Pueblo). The week also includes the opening of a solo exhibition (Aug. 19 to Sept. 3) from lauded glass artist Preston Singletary (Tlingit Nation). He shows a range of hand-blown and sandcarved glass pieces that incorporate imagery and iconography from his Tlingit culture. He demonstrates glassblowing techniques along with Dan Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 19 and 20. The gallery also offers painting demonstrations by Hyrum Joe (Navajo) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 18 and 19 and by Helen K. Tindel from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 20 and 21.
