Pathways Native Arts Festival

Friday, Aug. 19, and Saturday, Aug. 20, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Hilton Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino 30 Buffalo Thunder Trail 505-455-5555, poehcenter.org/pathways

“The Future Is Indigenous” is the motto for the second Pathways Native Arts Festival, taking place at Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino. The market is run by and for Indigenous people, said Karl Duncan, executive director of Pojoaque Pueblo's Poeh Cultural Center. “It was really great last year,” he said, “and we expect to be even better now that we have more publicity. Last year we had 300 booths; this year we'll have 340. We're hoping to make a big splash.” In addition to art, visitors can enjoy performances every hour outside and inside. “We'll have musicians, bands, dance groups and solo artists,” said Duncan. “We'll also have food vendors and food trucks offering Native foods and Northern New Mexico foods. We'll have a kids' corner in partnership with Meow Wolf — that's new this year. We've also opened the market up to Native entrepreneurs, not just artists,” with Native vendors selling health and wellness products, salts, soaps and more. At noon on Friday, Aug. 19, “we're going to have a Native fashion show, as well as two artist panels,” Duncan added.

Pathways Native Arts Festival is open to everyone during market hours and admission is free. On Friday night there is a ticketed VIP event. Visit the resort's website for up-to-date information about all activities.
