GOT BREAD?

Man may not live by bread alone, but it’s a good place to start! Although Santa Feans went nuts baking bread at home during the COVID lockdown, they also embraced a petite bakery specializing in naturally leavened breads. The Bread Shop is the brainchild of Jacob Brenner, a Santa Fe High grad who launched his cooking career in the Portland, Oregon, area before returning home to focus on the staff of life. His menu is simple: three to four artisanal breads — such as crusty sourdough boules and a rye bursting with pumpkin, sunflower and flax seeds — supplemented by seasonally topped focaccia and cookies. Recently Brenner started offering (on Sundays) a voluptuous sandwich that looks like it could feed a family of four. There’s also a small collection of gourmet foods; don’t miss the Beurre de Baratte French butter. Check the Bread Shop’s Facebook and Instagram pages to see when they’ve sold out for the day. To be sure you get what you want, order in advance online or by calling the bakery.

Bread Shop, 1708 Lena St., Suite 101, 505-231-7426, open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (or until sold out) Thursday-sunday, breadshopsf.com
