RELIGHTING THE OVEN: HORNO

After founding and operating the celebrated Street Food Institute, which has trained young professionals in the hospitality arts since 2014, chef David Sellers is returning to the restaurant stoves with Horno. After a decade as chef at the venerable Santacafé, Sellers created a big foodie following at his Amavi restaurant prior to taking a leave to teach. Taking over the space formerly inhabited by Il Piatto Italian Farmhouse Kitchen — a COVID-19 casualty — Sellers describes his new venture as a gastropub with a heavy Italian influence and a menu that will tip its hat to street food dishes from around the world. “We’re going to do fine food but not fine dining,” he explains. Ten beers on tap, an eclectic wine list and a completely renovated downtown location will make this, I predict, a new hot spot. Watch for Horno to be heating up after June 21.
